This two day tour explores the heart of Turkey where settlers within the picturesque landscape burrowed their homes and churches into the stone cliffs and completed many of their cities underground. This tour usually begins and ends in Istanbul, but can be started and ended in other Turkish cities.
Day 1- Fly into Cappadocia; See Cavusin, Pigeon Valley, and Kaymakli Underground City Morning flight into either Nevshehir or Kayseri airport in the Cappadocia area. You will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel to drop your bags and meet your guide. You will visit the ancient Christian village of Cavusin. Then onto the Pigeon Valley after lunch. Later you will visit the Kaymakli Underground City, which hid local Christians from Arab invaders. Overnight in one of Cappadocia’s famous cave hotels.
Day 2- Devrent, Monk’s Valley, Avanos, Goreme Open Air Museum, and Uchisar You will be picked up from your hotel to explore Devrent and Monk’s Valley where you will see the extraordinary mushroom-shaped rock pinnacles or “fairy chimneys”. Continue on to the small village of Avanos, famous for clay pottery design. After lunch, proceed to the Goreme Open Air Museum, featuring the most impressive rock-carved churches and Byzantine frescoes in all of Cappadocia. Last visit the natural rock citadel and highest point of Cappadocia, Uchisar. Transfer to the airport for outbound flight.
